Welcome to "Reconnecting..." for May

Spring is a time of growth, of hope, of new beginnings and abundance.  Look around you at nature if you need any proof of this.  So what are the seeds you are planting for yourself this spring?  Are you opening to possibilities, allowing yourself to grow, feeding and nourishing yourself on an inner level to support that growth?  Or perhaps you're noticing blocks, or turning away from opportunities out of fear or doubt.  Are you, by any chance, noticing resistance anywhere?

If so, you're not alone.  Resistance is surely one of the biggest stumbling blocks to growth for many of us.  Resistance says "I can't" or "I'm not good enough" or "I haven't got the money" or "It's too hard".  Resistance also says "but what if I fail?"

And what if you do?  Will you feel better about yourself and your life if you never give it a try?  Would you rather stagnate and remain in your comfort zone or are you willing to live a little, grow a little - even if there are some growth pains along the way?  There is a saying in NLP:  "There is no failure only feedback".  Which basically means setting a course, heading on out, then checking and reviewing the course along the way.  Do you like where you're going or does your course need altering somewhere?  If it does, that's not failure that's learning!

If you're feeling resistance in any way and you're not living the life you want and deserve, maybe it's time to say hello to that resistance, get to know it, find out where it's coming from.  Resistance can in fact be a great friend.  If we begin to recognise it for what it is,  to accept that most likely it's borne of underlying fears or old conditioning, we can begin to take steps to overcome it.  Sometimes we need to just feel it, be with it, allow and acknowledge it.  As we do that, something rather magical begins to  happen - we begin to open our awareness to more of ourselves.  And we also begin to see that we have choices and options.  We can remain stuck and resistant or we can take a step, perhaps even a tentative one, in a different direction.  And that can be the beginning of a whole new journey...

Earth Talk

Pat Angove writes:  "At the moment there is an air of expectancy on the planet, a wondering about what's coming next. The planet is building up for the end of the shift that began on 11th March.  My belief is that we will feel the final stages of this shift around and on the 6th June this year.  I am not normally one to go by these special dates, but this time it feels that this does coincide with the end of this particular stage in our evolutionary shift.

Things are hotting up on the planet and I feel there is an expectation of great change.  Sometimes change brings with it fear, but I do not believe that we need to fear.  Somehow I feel we are in greater hands than we could imagine and all we have to do is trust that we have a part of us that knows the way through these shifts. 

Look around you at the people making the most noise, the most fuss - see the fear they are expressing; but this does not mean that we need to fear. Trust that we are held, that this is all part of the divine plan.  Earth will support and guide us when we take the time to connect to her.  She is not a victim, she is a conscious being working with those who open to her.  What a trip!!!!"

Earth Connections

"Earth Connections 2006 is a week long residential workshop taking place in the powerful, ancient and mystical land of West Cornwall, facilitated by Pat Angove and Eloha who use the sacred sites our ancestors built in order to connect with the Earth for her healing and our own.

This is the 7th Earth Connections Workshop and Pat and Eloha have been asked by the Earth to connect and work with the sea.  So this year we shall be working the ancient sites like Madron Well, St Michaels Mount and Boscawen-Un stone circle, and using ritual and ceremony at places like Porth Chapel, the Lizard and other powerful places by the sea.

We must bring together our thoughts and love for the planet, and acknowledge ourselves as part of the planet, and through our own blood and sweat and tears, acknowledge also who we are and respond with love.  It is time to change the vibrations that have for so long held this planet in darkness.  We must begin with ourselves."

Whale Rescue - A Story of Blessing

A friend and colleague recently told me of a story I want to share with you.  In December last year a female humpback whale became entangled in a spider web of crab traps and lines near San Francisco.  She was weighed down by hundreds of pounds of traps that caused her to struggle to stay afloat.  She also had hundreds of yards of line (rope) wrapped around her body -- her tail, her torso, a line tugging in her mouth.

A fisherman spotted her and radioed an environmental group for help.  Within a few hours, the rescue team arrived and determined that she was in such a bad way that the only way to save her was to dive in and untangle her - a very dangerous proposition.  One slap of her tail could kill a rescuer.  They worked for hours with curved knives and eventually freed her.

When she was free, the divers say she swam in what seemed like joyous circles.  She then came back to each and every diver, one at a time, and nudged them, pushed them gently around.  The divers felt she was thanking them.  Some said it was the most beautiful experience of their lives. The one who cut the rope out of her mouth says her eye was following him the whole time.  He was profoundly affected by the experience and says he will never be the same.

(The photo above, although not the whale in the story, is of a humpback whale.  It was taken very recently just off the south shore of Bermuda.  Many thanks to Karen for passing on the photo - it landed in my Inbox at the perfect moment!).

And on the other hand...

Just as I was about to send this newsletter I received an email from IFAW (International Fund for Animal Welfare) about the Japanese whaling trade which is still going on.  I quote from IFAW:

"Since a global ban on whaling in 1985, Japan has continued to hunt whales in the name of 'scientific research'.  Yet legitimate scientists agree:  there's no need to kill whales to research them...Harpoons using the same explosive grenade heads employed fifty years ago are being used by Japanese whalers to slaughter whales illegally in international marine mammal sanctuaries...Japan is able to continue hunting whales...because (of) a loophole in the international ban that permits killing whales in order to conduct scientific research." 

Apparently Tony Blair said in a speech in 2001 'we will continue to be in the forefront in the campaign to save whales.'  IFAW urges you to write directly to your MP to ask the Prime Minister to make the UK's opposition to whaling absolutely clear in advance of the International Whaling Commission meeting in June.  IFAW is also seeking contributions to help mobilise further support to prevent more whales suffering and dying unnecessarily.
